Families set moral standards

August 11, 1999

Americans think that family is the key to improving morality. According to a poll sponsored by Shell Oil Co. 72 percent believe that parents shape moral development - far more than peers and friends (26 percent), teachers (18 percent), religious institutions (15 percent), and, yes, TV (8 percent). About 43 percent said faith in God is essential to leading a moral life.
