What goes up....

February 9, 1999

Students have sent lots of odd things into space aboard the space shuttle. They wanted to see if exposure to outer space affects them, and if so, how. Among the items that have been in orbit: popcorn (does space change the way it pops?), crayons (do the heat and cold change them?), erasers (do they work as well afterward?), paper clips (does the metal change?), and wheat and lentils (will they grow differently now?).
