* ROCK/POP Tori Amos - Under the Pink (Atlantic):

The second album from this accomplished singer-songwriter is already a smash. Even more accessible than her highly acclaimed ``Little Earthquakes,'' it features 12 songs of shimmering intensity, with Amos's haunting vocal skills and piano work buttressing music of depth and complexity. Amos hasn't shed her propensity for preciousness, and one wishes that the lyrics weren't so impenetrably abstract. But pop doesn't get more daring or more emotionally honest than this.
