TWO THIRDS OF AMERICANS WOULD LIKE NEW DESIGNS ON THEIR BANK NOTES

August 30, 1993

Seven out of 10 Americans would like to see a new face or symbol pictured on US currency, according to a survey by Plus ATM earlier this summer.

The desire for a fresh face may not be surprising since the poll found that few people knew who is on the $1, $5, $10, and $20 bills. Only 6 percent could correctly identify the faces on all four bills.

The top choice for a new bill is the American eagle (56 percent). The Statue of Liberty comes second (23 percent).
