Congress backs action against Iraq

President Clinton's decision to attack Iraq's intelligence headquarters in retaliation for a foiled plot to kill former President Bush won early bipartisan backing from Congress.

"I'm not going to second-guess it, or in any way criticize it," Senate Republican leader Bob Dole said Sunday in Iowa. "I think he made a decision based on the evidence. Compared to our indecision on Bosnia, it was at least a step in the right direction. It was a very measured response."

"It would be difficult for me to think of members who would oppose it," said Rep. Lee Hamilton (D) of Indiana, chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
