Regarding the editorial "Press Ahead on Bosnia," May 4: It is well to remember that bombing the Serb artillery weapons will bring consequences.

First, if we hit the artillery weapons, we will kill the Serb gunners. Second, if the bombs miss the weapons (and even "smart bombs" can miss), we will kill nearby Serbs and nearby Muslim men, women, and children, since the forces are often within 1,000 yards of each other.

Do we want to kill the killers, both Serb and Muslim, to keep them from killing each other? Col. William Little (USA, ret.), Washington
