`Motor voter' roars ahead

They did it on the stimulus package, but on the "motor voter" bill, Senate Republicans could not present a united front. Thanks to the defection of six Republicans, Democrats managed to break a GOP filibuster on Tuesday and virtually assure passage of the measure that will make voter registration easier. But Sen. David Durenberger (R) of Minnesota, who now supports the bill, said the filibuster helped improve "motor voter" by adding GOP amendments intended to prevent voter fraud.
