EMPLOYERS, EDUCATORS SUPPORT YOUTH APPRENTICESHIPS

The Clinton administration and other boosters of youth apprenticeship programs can take heart from a survey released this week by the National Alliance of Business. The poll of 6,800 high school principals and small-business owners found broad agreement that the two groups should join forces to better prepare students for the workplace.

Ninety-five percent of the principals surveyed said they would be willing to alter their school's curriculum to include courses geared to particular careers.

Only 26 percent of employers surveyed said they would not spend time and money working with a school, but of that group, 80 percent said they would do so if the government offered subsidies or tax credits.
