NONSTICK COATING UNDERWATER

Independent Marine Service recently announced a new approach to warding off barnacles and Zebra Mussels in underwater facilities, including water intakes in power generating stations and water treatment plants.

The creatures, which can block the intakes, are less likely to attach to a nonstick coating, according to IMS. So a new nonstick coating is applied underwater by IMS divers while operations are under way.

The coating, made by KISS-COTE Inc, a Tampa, Fla., firm, does away with the traditional usage of using toxic anti-foulants to kill marine growth.
