DRUG TESTING FOR JOBS RISES

September 24, 1992

Some 41 percent of United States employers now require substance-abuse testing as a condition of employment. That's up from 33 percent a year ago, according to a survey of 595 companies by The Olsten Corporation, a temporary-personnel firm.

Only 35 percent of the companies tested for job-related workplace literacy skills, down 13 percent from the previous year. Olsten attributes the slippage to the slow economy.
