How Blows the Wind!

September 22, 1992

In this night of autumn, how blows the wind! How blows the spark of lightning and how blows the bough, the thunder, and how blows the dark! In gusts, the heavy wind-whipped rain drives against my window pane. Pushed and shoved there in the gutter, the brittle dead leaves mourn and mutter... I myself, in several blasts tremble and shake! My thoughts scatter through the lights and overcasts. In the noise I almost shatter... Until, by rhythms of the weather my thoughts and I are joined together in the stirring wild advance of unreasoning exuberance.
