ZAMBIA TO SELL OFF STATE FIRMS

July 16, 1992

Zambia plans to sell more than 130 state firms in line with recommendations from the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Officials said yesterday the government had approved plans to form an agency to handle the five-year program. The agency will include representatives from the ministries of trade, commerce, industry, and finance as well as trade unions and private business.

Meanwhile, Zambian police arrested 16 protesters Tuesday during clashes with about 1,000 students demanding higher allowances.
