Changes in Israel's government

July 15, 1992

Regarding the front page article "Israel's Religious Parties to Lose Their Pivotal Role in Government," July 2: This points to a fundamental weakness in Israeli politics and system of government. This weakness has been a constant obstacle to peace under the former Likud regime. The formation of a secular government by Yitzhak Rabin will hopefully lead to some easing of the tension. Lasting peace, however, will only come when the people of Israel recognize the need to build a strict separation between chu rch and state. Tom Nelson, Lansing, Mich.
