LITHOGRAPHS AT THE BOSTON ATHENAEUM

June 18, 1992

During the 19th century, Boston was a center of commerical lithography. Nathaniel Currier (later of Currier and Ives) and Winslow Homer both apprenticed at firms in the city. The Athenaeum recently released an illustrated book of its prints that traces the development of the craft; `Boston Lithography, 1825-1880: The Boston Athenaeum Collection,' by Sally Pierce and Catharina Slautterback, includes the prints shown on this page.
