REMARRIAGE CAN AFFECT A CHILD'S EDUCATION

A parent's remarriage can affect whether a child gets a college education, according to a study by Andrea Beller, a University of Illinois researcher.

Ms. Beller found that while a stepfather's added income has a positive impact on the stepchild's high-school period, it often does not go so far as to help provide for college education. Children living in two-parent families with remarried mothers are "significantly less likely" to enter college than those living with once-married mothers.
