Launch after two decades of planning, construction, and several delays. June 1990:
Discovery of spherical aberration in 94-inch primary mirror and jitter caused by solar arrays.
Late 1993 to early 1994:
Repair mission to install corrective optics and replace solar arrays plus two failed gyroscopes.
