JAPANESE PLANTS IN THE US

April 7, 1992

Last year there were 1,563 Japanese-affiliated manufacturing plants in the United States employing more than 300,000 Americans, according to a survey by Japan External Trade Organization.

The survey shows that Japanese plants are located in every state except North Dakota. California has 237 plants, followed by Ohio's 121, Illinois with 112, and Michigan's 87.

The number of Japanese working at these plants is less than 7 persons per plant in 1991, down from 8 persons in 1990.
