EMPLOYEES ARE HESITANT TO READ PAPERS AT WORK

February 7, 1992

A recent survey of 1,500 corporate executives found that fewer than 5 percent of them read newspapers as a serious business exercise. Nearly 65 percent of them primarily engage in "headline hopping" and occasionally read a story, according to the Trends Journal.

Employers and managers at every level are afraid to read newspapers at their desks, lest they be thought to be "goofing off," the study found.

However, the journal said "reading newspapers for a purpose is the key to tracking trends for profit."
