COLUMBUS PROTESTERS PLAN MARCH FROM PANAMA TO US

A group of activists from Asia, Europe, and the Americas plans to walk from Panama to Washington to protest the 500th anniversary of the Spanish colonization of Latin America, a spokesman said.The march will start tomorrow, on the second anniversary of the US invasion of Panama, and end in the US capital Oct. 12 next year, the official date of Columbus landing in the New World, said James Lyons, a march organizer. "They will march for more than nine months along the Pan-American Highway to Washington, where they will join a scheduled demonstration against the 500th anniversary of Columbus' discovery of America," Lyons said. The walk is a distance of about 3,000 miles, organizers said.
