HOW 'GREEN' IS YOUR CHRISTMAS TREE?

December 16, 1991

Using a live Christmas tree for the holidays is the best choice for the environment, according to David Taber, a forest specialist at Cornell University. Mr. Taber says consumers do not have to worry about depleting forests because "Christmas tree growers plant up to three times as many trees each year as are harvested."Of the 90 million American households, about one-third buy a real tree, one-third use artificial trees, and the rest do not purchase a tree at all.
