JAPAN BOUGHT 2.3 MILLION PCs LAST YEAR

In 1990, about 3.8 million personal computers were shipped by PC makers in or to the Asia/Pacific region, producing revenue of $12.4 billion, according to International Data Corporation (IDC), a market research firm.Of that total, Japan bought an estimated 2.3 million PCs at a value of $9.6 billion. These numbers represent an increase of 23 percent in units and 24 percent in value over 1989. Over the next five years, IDC projects an increase of 23 percent in unit purchases in Japan and a 16 percent increase in the value of purchases.
