JAPAN SHIFTS EXPORT FOCUS

Japan is shifting its economic focus away from the United States and toward Europe and Asia, according to a report from the Conference Board.Japan's auto exports to the US market rose by 90 percent between 1980 and 1985, but then increased only 20 percent in the second half of the decade. On the other hand, Japanese car exports to Western Europe rose only 14 percent in the early 1980s, but increased by almost 200 percent over the rest of the decade.
