November 1, 1991

A majority of consumers in the United States say the quality of American-made products, such as cars and household appliances, has improved in the past three years, according to a survey by Quality Strategies Inc., a consulting firm. But where 52 percent of those surveyed said product-quality had improved, only 36 percent said the same of the service sector. For example, customers give low marks to hotel/motel services, auto repair and maintenance, and airline services.
