October 4, 1991

'FINGER-lickin' good," joked a young girl, screwing up her nose at the heap of trash in front of her (See photo at left). Wearing rubber gloves, she and a dozen other kids stood before large sorting tables at the recycling center, removing plastic forks, glass, and other inorganic matter. The fair's recycling program is three years old. Last year, 98 percent of the waste was either recycled or composted, fair officials say.
