KURDISH REBELS ALLOW REFUGEES BACK INTO IRAQ

Kurdish guerrillas tore down roadblocks along the Iraqi-Turkish border April 30, and allowed the first of about 500,000 Iraqi refugees trapped in squalid mountain camps to go home. Refugees headed along mountain roads to security havens prepared in northern Iraq by US, British, and other forces.

The guerrillas, worried by the continued presence of Saddam's forces, built roadblocks April 26 to stop fellow Kurds from heading to safe havens set up inside an 18-mile allied-controlled zone in northern Iraq.
