`T"URKIYE' TRIES TO POLISH IMAGE

April 15, 1991

It's ``T"urkiye'' - not Turkey. In a new advertising campaign to woo back western tourists who were scared away by the Gulf war, Turkey is for the first time in United States advertising using the traditional spelling of its name.

In 1990, the country lost over 50 percent of its projected tourism revenue due to the the war. Turkey's Ministry of Tourism hired Brouillard Communications and Hill & Knowlton to produce ``the Civilized Adventure'' campaign.
