ELECTRONICS PROFITS RISE IN 1990

April 5, 1991

The United States electronics industry recorded one of its most profitable periods in the fourth quarter of 1990, according to the Electronic Business profits index, a sampling of the performance of 17 major electronics companies. The index shows that profits for the fourth quarter climbed 76.4 percent compared to a year earlier. Profits for the entire year rose 8.3 percent.

The electronics industry benefited from last year's steady revenue growth, a weak dollar, and restructuring of the industry in 1989.
