1991 RHODES SCHOLARS NAMED

Thirty-two young American students who include a poet, an AIDS researcher, a Baptist minister, and a teacher were named Sunday to study at Oxford University in England as Rhodes scholars for 1991. The American students from 23 colleges and universities in 26 states join an international group of scholars from 17 other countries as recipients of the oldest international study award, established in 1902 in the will of British philanthropist and colonial pioneer Cecil Rhodes.

Only five women are on the 1991 list, - the lowest number since 1976, when women became eligible to apply.
