KEEPING TIRES FILLED ... [ cf. ... AND NOT LANDFILLED ]

September 21, 1990

Half of all cars on the road today have tires that are underinflated by an average of 4 pounds per square inch, causing a waste of 600 million gallons of gasoline each year, according to Firestone Tire, based in Akron. A car that gets 25 miles per gallon and travels 10,000 miles a year would waste 8 gallons of gasoline if its tires were underinflated by 4 pounds per square inch.
