LIBYA CONDEMNS IRAQ FOR HOLDING HOSTAGES

August 22, 1990

Libya's Col. Muammar Qaddafi condemned Iraq's use of foreigners as hostages in the Gulf crisis. He also threatened to pull out of the United Nations if it fails to criticize US military intervention in the region. ``I am against the use of civilians and workers as hostages,'' Colonel Qaddafi said Monday.

President Bush Monday referred to the Westerners Iraq is sending to key installations as human shields to deter possible attack as hostages.
