The Renaming

October 18, 1989

Like the contents of some box on a dresser top Holding old lodge pins, single cuff links, Keys to locks that no longer exist, coins from a Country we never visit again, there may come a Time when words will be thrown away. I tell you There will be a time of renaming after words such as Stars, friends, home, have publicly changed. Don't be afraid, it's centuries away, it will not be a Decree that brings it about. By then there will be More worlds. We will always have Words, they will free us to write of White suns burning, the sleep-breaking Roar of light as we Draw closer out of the dark, We will only be discovering the Original meanings of man.
