STATES WARY OF WHITE HOUSE A-WASTE PLAN

White House chief of staff John Sununu and Energy Department officials urged seven governors and members of the states' congressional delegations Wednesday to temporarily handle equal amounts of waste from the Rocky Flats nuclear weapons plant, to avert a shutdown early next year. Most of the seven states - Idaho, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Washington - had indicated earlier this week they would not accept any of the waste.
