HOUSE APPROVES STEEL LIMITS

October 4, 1989

The extension of steel import restraints is all but assured after an overwhelming House vote to extend restrictions until 1992. Monday's 354-to-10 vote approved President Bush's compromise to extend the restrictions on 29 foreign trading partners until April 1992. Sen. Bob Packwood (R) Oregon has introduced a companion measure in the Senate, where approval is expected soon.
