US TO MEET WITH CHINA ON GATT MEMBERSHIP

Despite its ban on high-level contacts with Chinese authorities, the Bush administration will meet this month with Chinese officials on that nation's bid to join the General Agreement on Trade and Tariffs (GATT), State Department sources say. ``The objective is to try to encourage China to continue along its path of economic reform,'' says a department official.
