Nothing Can Change You

July 17, 1989

I always knew you were not dusty, Moon - No cinder-bin like this old Earth of ours. The scientists now tell us that no dune Of dust exists on you, who gild night's hours. I always knew that you were solid gloss - Your glow could never come from dreary dust. You may be speckled with a silver moss That features you, at distance seen by us But you could never sink to such disgrace As dust would bring you, once it were revealed. Too many centuries have seen your face An orb of gold, for it to be repealed. Nothing can change you, Moon, though years go by. You still will light the lovers' ancient sky.
