AEROSPACE FIRM CHARGED WITH SALE OF BAD PARTS

May 22, 1989

A federal grand jury has indicted a California aerospace company on charges of selling substandard and defective bolts to NASA for use on space shuttles. The indictment last week accuses Lee Aerospace Products Inc. of Simi Valley, Calif., of defrauding the government by stating the bolts were tested and met aerospace standards.

The bolts were sold from August 1985 to September 1987 to USBI Production Company Inc. at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, which used them in the assembly and refurbishing of solid rocket boosters on the space shuttle.
