Now frost has settled in to stay, and mist, smoking beneath a moon as cold as stone, gives warning to all growing things: desist; tells birds, depart; says, you are on your own. - How swiftly days have shortened! Overnight the sky has turned its season inside out. The largest seeing source is icy light, yet moods of celebration whirl about. The time is such that nothing can rescind this chance to hold farewell festivities; and trees throw their confetti to the wind, then settle back to write their memories.
