Plans for a watercolor

April 1, 1988

A navy blue shirt flaps untenanted against the chairback. From a pocket hangs the spider. With practiced legs he slides on shining lines, calculates a trap- ezoidal web, connects an orphan shirt to flower pots. Brushed on wet paper ochre sunspots blur in triangles, flowers of madder rose and scarlet. What color for an orb-web?

I gather brushes do not disturb the navy shirt. His design complete the spider drops along a viscid drag-line, vanishes among flaming petals of geraniums.
