Going your way

November 24, 1987

ON this same date but years without number later I know less, question more and scurry, scurry, scurry so as not to be found by all those lost moments we didn't share The north-south expressway arches grandly up and over the east-west expressway in engineering ecstasy and out of the corner of my eye I glimpse briefly the old bridge and the old road

distracted from seeking a traveler's parable there by a field suddenly undulating with ordinary birds I take comfort and courage - you also went this way.
