Shadows

August 13, 1987

Two shadows on grass Elongated, growing, Walking together Through meadow of green; Your shoulders much broader My figure much slimmer, Two shadows together With sunlight between. How far the horizon Violet with shadows As sun drops behind us In welter of gold, Your arm on my shoulder Pulling me closer Making one shadow When twilight takes hold.

We look younger on grass Trimmer and firmer Almost like children Pausing at play, Arms linked together Facing horizon, Laughing at shadows Moving our way.
