Because of an editing error, a photo caption that appeared in Robert C. Cowen's ``Research Notebook'' column on Feb. 17 gave the impression that the Very Large Array radio telescope near Albuquerque, N.M., has been used to ``listen'' for signs of extraterrestrial life. This is not the case.
