Build -- and repair

December 18, 1986

We do not, all of us, build. You may think that we are not skilled enough -- or we do not care. But that would not be true. What the times allow us to do, or circumstances compel, or instinct prompts, we do -- and do rather well! We patch up things. We repair. Nailing a board on a floor, screwing a hinge on a door, tightening a wire on a fence, straightening a post make sense. This is the way we survive and others keep alive -- the humble who do not try to excel and reach the sky but keep, in country and town, what was built from falling down.
