British eat record amount of German food, for better or wurst

For better or wurst, the British are eating a record amount of West German food. CMA, the Bonn government's marketing organization here, says that British imports of West German food topped 1.4 billion pounds ($2.1 billion) last year for the first time.

German sausages and cooked meats are the favorite items, but consumption of German cheese has doubled since 1982, it said.

Spurred by growing health awareness, the British are also buying record amounts of German additive-free breakfast cereals, the marketing group said.
