Planning the fields

February 3, 1986

As I toured our acres on my horse, I reflected: there is a hill that needs trees . . . The grass is too thin for cattle. It has expected deer for years but none came. Give it to the walnuts. Squirrels will like it. A hedge to entertain quail would be good there. That fence is too self-centered. No winter shelter. We should plant that slope to clover for a hay crop, bees, and butterflies!
