US Open tennis `Czech-mated'

Ivan Lendl's victory over John McEnroe in the men's final, coming on the heels of Hana Mandlikova's upset triumph in the women's final, enabled Czechoslovakia to steal the US Open tennis spotlight as perhaps no other foreign country ever has before.
