Square dance

August 2, 1985

We weave out patterns on the floor: ``Now, honor your partner'' (whom I love) with grace I bow, extend my hand out to a gap-toothed corner -- a wife of Bath -- we allemande and now! ``Grand right and'' (lo! my partner's) ``left' I meet the gap-toothed corner, promenade (my heart sinks) we swing, the ``Ladies chain'' I greet a twelve-year-old with braces, move apart -- ``Grand square'' I move in squares (but where's my love?) and with the twelve-year-old I do-si-do then allemande the last remaining glove -- a sprightly granny -- right and left I go: through promenades and chains and allemandes and centuries (and we are holding hands) (No relation.
