Kinnock blasts S. Africa

June 18, 1985

Neil Kinnock, leader of Britain's opposition Labor Party today urged the Conservative government to ostracize South Africa and impose sanctions to ``hasten liberation'' for the country's black majority. Mr. Kinnock told an anti-apartheid rally held in front of the South African embassy that a future Labor government would cut all political, economic and military links with South Africa to pressure Pretoria into ending apartheid.

``It is time for Britain to remove all support from racist rule and to put ourselves clearly on the side of freedom.

``Sanctions must be applied, to hasten freedom, to promote stability, to release southern Africa from the pressures and the warfare of South Africa,'' he said.
