If I had for a moment doubted: cat -- those doubts resolve in a swash of tongue, the spread of toes, the combing bite all lit by yellow eyes half-closed now in the bliss of bathing after lunch. This tidy finish to the meal is what separates you from the spattered jackal, from the bovine with its everlasting cud; makes you cat first of all and only second resident in what some call a zoo, this habitat on earth.
