Georgia plant gets chemical shipment refused by Brazil

A 15-ton shipment of methyl isocyanate, the chemical that killed about 2,500 people in India, arrived at a Norfolk, Va., port Saturday after being refused by Brazil. It was transported safely to a Union Carbide plant in Woodbine, Ga., where it will be processed into pesticide.

Meanwhile, Indonesia revoked the license it granted Union Carbide in 1983 to build a pesticide plant that uses methyl isocyanate gas, the daily Sinar Harapan reported Sunday. He said the plant construction could go ahead if another chemical process was used.
