Fire in Utah mine forces rescuers to abandon search

A major flareup of fire drove rescue workers from a Utah coal mine early Sunday before they could remove the 25 located bodies of the 27 workers who were trapped in the worst US mine disaster since 1974.

Two workers remained missing.

Officials of the Emery Mining Co. said they had sealed the entrance to the Wilburg Mine after flames forced search teams to abandon their recovery. The mine will be sealed for at least three days, they said.
